The initial survey prior to installation at the Zaung Tu
Weir was participated by Mr. Akira Kodaka, Dr. Ralph Allen Acierto, and Mr.
Shin Yonehara. The group also met with Mr. Myint Soe (Irrigation Department,
Assistant Director of Bago Area) at the site to discuss and coordinate some
details regarding the preparation of the observation site installation at Zaung
Tu Weir and succeeding activities for the installation. Mr. Kyaw Win Hlaing and
Mr. U Thaung Htike (Department of Hydropower Planning Implementation,
Maintenance Branch) were also present during initial survey to share some
information for the observation site installation and plan the visit to Zaung
Tu Dam on the next day.

During
this preliminary survey checked the location of installation, preparation of
the pole that will hold the observation system, and preparation of the
surrounding area. Upper
left picture shows image of Zaung Tu Weir with almost at full capacity before
overtopping. Lower left picture shows fenced area for installation of
observation system prepared by Irrigation Department counterparts.
In
addition, the stability and speed of internet data speed availability was
checked at the area before the installation. Two service providers were tested
as shown in Table 1. Speedtest application in Iphone was used for the checking
the data speed availability on the morning of 19th February 2016.
The two service providers were Ooredoo and Telenor. The average download speed
of Ooredoo was higher than Telenor. But, the upload speed of Telenor was higher
than Ooredoo. In addition among the trial tests, the results from Telenor were
more stable and less variable in download and upload speeds as compared to
Ooredoo. Due to this results, Telenor was selected as the service provider used
for the modem in the weather observation installation in Zaung Tu Weir.
